St Mary Magdalene Church on Holloway Road recently heard its fourth and final in a series of evening concerts to raise money for the church’s Paradise Project and the St Mary Magdalene Centre for Refugees and Asylum Seekers.
The concerts also sought to raise the profile of the brave and inspiring work of Canon Andrew White's Parish in Baghdad and to bring high-quality live music-making to a beautiful and accoustically perfect but culturally under-used church.
The concerts were free, with the £750 raised being shared equally between the three projects, and have featured a huge range of performances - from Iranian improvisation to Brahms Symphonies! The Angel Orchestra became the first orchestra to perform in the church in anyone's memory - an event which was attended by the Mayor of Islington, Cllr Anna Berent.
