New assistant priest for London Bridge

30/10/09

The Archdeacon of London, the Venerable David Meara, licensed Fr Reji Raj-Singh as the new Assistant Priest at a service to bless the new bells at St Magnus the Martyr in the City of London on 26 October.

This service was the culmination of 5 years hard work by Fr Philip and the community of St Magnus to undertake major repairs to the building, and replace the ancient bells, which has seen the church raise over £500,000 and at the same time seen a large growth in regular worshippers at St Magnus.

At the service, the Archdeacon said:

"And can I here just say to those who at this moment may be feeling uncertain about their future spiritual journey because of His Holiness Pope’s Benedict’s recent decree: my belief is that we need Catholic Anglicans within the Church of England: and we need a Church like St Magnus the Martyr within the City of London which unashamedly offers a full-blooded liturgy, the Mass offered with due solemnity and rich ceremonial: and we would be infinitely poorer if this element of Anglicanism were weakened or God forbid faded away altogether. Let us walk together, acknowledging above all the things that unite us, above all the fact that we are fellow pilgrims together walking the Christian way."
