The 2009 summer holidays were filled with fun and learning for 42 Hackney youngsters who attended a two week Summer Adventure organised by the St John-at-Hackney and St Luke’s Churches.
Youngsters were treated to an assortment of trips including visits to local London spaces such as The National Portrait Gallery and St Paul’s Cathedral, where they learnt about the kinds of families that lived in London in the past and how different Christian communities function.
Over the course of the two weeks the children were also joined by resident artist at St John’s, Andrew Coombs, Musical Director at St John’s, Jack Bicker, and other specialists in dance, costume design and food to explore ideas around neighbourhood and family.
Toyin Ajidele, the Children and Youth Project Coordinator at St John at Hackney church, said: "It was great to see so many volunteers turn out to support the programme for the children by giving up so much of their time."
Father Rob Wickham, Rector of Hackney: "It was a fantastic provision. You really got a sense that the children enjoyed participating in the activities."
