The Bishop of London today announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive and General Secretary for the Diocese of London. Andy Brookes will be responsible for managing the staff in Diocesan House as they support the 479 churches of the Diocese of London and nearly 1000 clergy.

Andy Brookes, over a 25-year career, has worked for a number of significant organisations including the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the Bank of England and most recently Aon. For the past five years he has been helping to lead the modernising of the London insurance market as Head of Market Reform based at Lloyd’s of London. In his work for the Bank of England, Andy was a major contributor to the design, build and promotion of the CREST settlement system. He is an economist by background, having studied at University College London and gained a Masters degree through Queen Mary College.

Keith Robinson, the current General Secretary, is retiring this year after serving the Diocese for ten years. Andy Brookes will take up his new position on 1 December.

Andy Brookes said:

"It is a privilege to have been invited to take on this role. Helping to support the mission of God’s church in the city I love is an exciting prospect. I am grateful for the opportunity, and for all the high quality work that Keith and his colleagues have led in the past decade. He leaves the diocese in good health and I look forward to continuing that work."

The Bishop of London, Dr Richard Chartres, added:

"Andy Brookes has been a committed member of the Church of England in the diocese for many years. For a decade he was part of Emmanuel Church in Holloway, where he retains strong links. He combines clear Christian commitment with professional skill honed in the most demanding environments. I greatly welcome his appointment and look forward to our partnership in the London Challenge."
