There was a wonderful day of celebration at St Matthew's Church Yiewsley on Sunday 28th June as the church celebrated its 150th anniversary.
It began with a service led by the Bishop of London, Dr Richard Chartres, and special guests included the local MP, John Randall, several local Councillors, former St Matthew’s clergy and their families and the choir of St Matthew's Church of England Primary School.
During the service the Bishop dedicated new glass doors that have been installed at the main entrance of the church as part of St Matthew's vision to be open and welcoming to the local community.
The Bishop said:
"St Matthew's is what a parish church ought to be - a community hub dedicated to serving Yiewsley in all its diversity".
The Vicar of St Matthew's, the Revd Richard Young, added:
"The service was an uplifting celebration of 150 years of Christian worship and mission at St Matthew's as well as a moving opportunity for the current generation at St Matthew's to be renewed in our vision of God’s purpose for us".
The 150th anniversary celebrations continue on Saturday 4 July with a free Community Fun Day and Flower Festival supported by funding from Hillingdon Community Trust. The church and school grounds will be packed with bouncy castles, street entertainers, puppeteers, sideshows and displays from local community groups.
