A number of the clergy of the City Chapter visited Dublin on June 21-23 to gather the clergy together to promote a greater sense of harmony in instances of parochial cooperation, and to enable the clergy to learn something of Anglicanism in another Western English-speaking context.
The group met a broad range of local Christians and clergy on the first evening. The group stayed at Trinity College Dublin, and spent the Monday learning about Irish Church history and liturgical practice.
Dr Kenneth Milne, Church of Ireland historiographer, addressed the group in the historic context of Christ Church Cathedral where prayers were led and lunch provided by the Dean, the Very Revd Dermot Dunne.
A visit to the Roman Catholic Pro-Cathedral was concluded with a meeting with both Archbishops of Dublin. On the Tuesday morning the group attended a seminar at the Deanery of St Patrick’s Cathedral at which a number of distinguished Irish political, economic and diplomatic voices guided them into an understanding of 'the new Ireland'.
The group travelled back to their duties in London, refreshed and reinvigorated.
