Members of eight churches in the Soul in Northolt and Greenford network staged the free event on Northolt Village's Clocktower Green to celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, which marks the birth of the Christian church.

People enjoyed free refreshments, games, face painting, and had the chance to reflect and share their prayer needs in a special 'prayer tent' run by Northolt Park Baptist Church. The Green was filled with the music from the youth steel band of St Michael's, Stonebridge Music Project.

The event, which was also attended by Ealing North MP Steve Pound and Northolt Councillor Bassam Mahfouz coincided with two other gatherings in Ealing on the Global Day of Prayer. It finished with an open air act of worship in the blazing sunshine led by St Mary's rector the Revd Greville Thomas, when prayers were offered for the local area and London.

The Revd Simon Winn, Vicar of St Joseph the Worker Church, said:

"This is the fourth year we've worked together to run the Pentecost fun day and worship and it's offered simply to bless our local community and for people to enjoy themselves. None of us are big churches and we are committed to collaborating across the denominations throughout the year to demonstrate the unity of the body of Christ and to share hope and healing in our community."
