St Michael and All Angels, Bedford Park, was the venue for a Fairtrade wine tasting at which Harriet Lamb CBE, Executive Director of the Fairtrade Foundation was the guest speaker.
Ros Lister, a member of the London Fairtrade Diocese Campaign Steering Group, organized the evening together with Chiswick Churches for Justice and Peace.
Ros said:
"We can buy Fairtrade wines in retail outlets but not in restaurants and pubs; I wanted to see if we could make a difference in this area especially as we have a large number of these establishments around Chiswick, so we invited them to our wine tasting to introduce them to Fairtrade and an excellent range of Fairtrade wines."
The wines were presented by Ian Tilleard-Haines of Fairtrade wine importers Ehrmanns Ltd. He spoke of their relationship with the producers in Chile and South Africa and of the benefits that Fairtrade has brought to these communities.
Canapes to complement the wines were prepared by Sam’s Brasserie which now stocks a choice of three Fairtrade wines.
Also present at the event was Chiswick’s highest profile eco campaigner Colin Firth who was joined by his brother in law and business partner Nico. Clearly a strong supporter of the Fairtrade Foundation, Firth spent some time chatting with Lamb about the work of the Foundation.
