Church communities and dioceses across the south of England have been invited to come together and re-discover some of their finest cities at Walk & Explore London, Saturday 13 September and Walk & Explore Bristol, Saturday 20 September.
The sponsored walking adventure series offers a chance to learn more about landmarks and historic gems in the area, and unite under a common cause.
Walkers have a choice of specially designed walking trails, each encompassing impressive churches, historic ruins, parks and gardens. At Walk & Explore London participants can enjoy free entry into The Golden Hinde and HMS Belfast’s Quarterdeck, with discounted entry into St Paul’s Cathedral. Walk & Explore Bristol includes a visit to Bristol Cathedral, the City Museum and The Georgian House.
The Rev’d Nigel Asbridge, Chaplain Missioner for The Children's Society comments:
"Walk & Explore is not only a special chance to discover magnificent cities, but also, in the tradition of the road to Emmaus, is an opportunity to walk with others to discover something new about our faith. A walking adventure, or pilgrimage, appeals to something very basic in the human spirit. We think of our lives as journeys; each life being marked by significant mileposts. Walk & Explore brings people of all ages together to support The Children’s Society and reflect upon our lives, our faith and those children who face life’s harshest challenges."
All funds raised at Walk & Explore events will help thousands of disadvantaged children across the UK, many of whom are not given basic opportunities such as fun family days out. Places can be registered in advance at www.walkandexplore.org.uk or on 0845 300 1128.
