JustShare holds an annual event on May Day to raise awareness of global social and economic injustice. Intended as an alternative to the May Day Marches, it takes place on the steps of the Royal Exchange and attracts a large audience of city workers as well as Christians and campaigners. In 2007, JustShare's May Day event had the theme 'Ending Slavery: Then and Now?' and featured the traditional 'Sermon for the City' given by Clare Short MP and the Revd Joel Edwards (Evangelical Alliance). Anti-Slavery International and a number of other NGOs attended and John Keble School Steel Band provided some music. A seminar in the evening allowed those interested to learn more about the issues and the importance of 'speaking truth to power'
