The City of London has just been awarded Fairtrade Zone status.
Triggered by a letter from JustShare (www.justshare.org.uk), the Corporation of London established a Fairtrade Steering Group (chaired by the Rector of St Mary-le-Bow) to work on meeting the goals laid down by the Fairtrade Foundation. These include targets for the number of shops, offices, schools and churches etc offering fairtrade goods; the application recorded details of 12 churches within the Square Mile who helped to achieve the City's award. Harriet Lamb and Michael Snyder, amongst others, commended the City's efforts at a very well-attended Celebration of the Fairtrade Award held at the Barbican on 4th December 2007.
