Chaplain to Law Firms in the City

Workplace chaplaincy: just one model of many!

Lots of churches in the city are effectively doing chaplaincy. This is just text for a sample poster put up inside firms institutions or companies, in this case aimed specifically at large city law firms, but adaptable to other institutions.

Basically the HR department is offered a ‘personal support service’ outside but near the office from a chaplain who is therefore independent of the organization but preferably has access within.

By offering bereavement support or a listening ear on other issues the chaplain is genuinely available to staff at times of need. Often that results in an invitation to explore the Christian faith. The aim is to be available where people actually are - geographically emotionally and spiritually. It is important to undergo appropriate training and obtain supervision if such a service is being offered.

I found the CRUSE bereavement training invaluable and see a psychotherapist as a work supervisor. I also built a network of other faith leaders who would see staff on spiritual issues if need be so as to serve the diverse needs of staff. But in principle it is a model that could be used by other churches to serve people at work in their parish and it has resulted in staff coming to faith.
