A service of Holy Communion including Bach: Cantata Lobe den Herren (Praise to the Lord the Almighty, the King of creation); Bach: Jesu, joy of man’s desiring; Handel: Hallelujah Chorus
with professional soloists and full orchestral accompaniment.
This service, as well as celebrating the feast of Trinity Sunday, celebrates the German chorale tradition and its place in Anglican hymnody, the genius of Johann Sebastian Bach and the chorale translations of Catherine Winkworth, and aims to give an impression of the pattern of Lutheran worship in Bach’s time.
There are optional rehearsals at 7.45 pm on Thursday 8th and 15th May in the Choir Vestry, and a full rehearsal on the Sunday morning at 9.00 am.
