What constitutes a 'sacred space'? How do our buildings - ancient and contemporary - help us to express the concept?
Reflecting on our renewed church building and the new complex of underground spaces, three renowned speakers help us explore the fascinating subject of 'sacred spaces' from a variety of angles: theological, architectural, cultural and sociological. Margaret Baker is an Old Testament scholar well-known for her writings on the theology and liturgy of the Jewish Temple and its influence on the Christian community. Professor Philip Sheldrake of Durham University has a particular interest in the role of religion and society and the concept of the sacred space in the secular world. Eric Parry is the architect whose vision has inspired the renewal of St Martin's, in a design which holds together the glories of the Baroque era with a contemporary expression of the sacred.
