WILLIAM WILBERFORCE AND THE ABOLITION OF THE SLAVE TRADE

Lecturer: Dr John Wolffe, Professor of Religious History at the Open University, and author of the recently published 'The Expansion of Evangelicalism - the age of Wilberforce, More, Chalmers and Finney'

Details

This public lecture coincides with the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the slave trade and will show how people of Christian character who are motivated by their faith can fight injustice and change society.

As Chair of the Christianity and History Forum Professor Wolffe is one of the leading Christian historians in the UK and is currently working on a major project on William Wilberforce and his long term influence. His research interests all relate in some way to interactions between religion and national identity in the North Atlantic world since the late eighteenth century. He has a particular interest in Evangelicalism.

There will be a bookstall run by Cornerstone Books of North Finchley and copies of The Expansion of Evangelicalism will be available.
