CANTICA DIVINA - SINGING THE PSALMS WITH THE HEART

From the time of Christ, the Christian Church in East and West has valued and sung the Psalms, not only for their literal meaning, but for their insights bringing us nearer to God. This introduces the subject as reflected in Augustine, Ambrose, John Chrysostom and others. It ends with singing the Sixth Hour for the day.

Details

The talk, organised by the Fellowship of St. Alban & St Sergius - London Branch - will focus on the insights in the psalms as used in the Early Church (including by Christ and the Apostles), and guidelines for singing them today. It will culminate in the Office for the Feast of St. Ignatius of Antioch and St. Etheldreda of Ely, and practical guidelines on how to do it at home.

Speaker is William Cooper Bailey, a member of the Fellowship who graduated from Cambridge with an Advanced Diploma in Orthodox Christian Studies, specialising in Community Life, Monasticism and the Early Church, and in demand as a lecturer in this country and abroad.

Full handouts provided, together with Plainchant setting for the Sixth Hour as above.
