Promoted by the Royal College of Organists with Ann Elise Smoot and William Whitehead as artistic directors.
The College and the London Organ Forum have worked closely together in the past, but for 2009 that relationship has been strengthened with the setting up of a formal partnership between the College and LOF artistic directors Ann Elise Smoot and William Whitehead.
This year's RCO London Organ Forum explores Mendelssohn. Key figure in the revival of Bach's organ and choral music and celebrated recitalist of his day, he made a particular impact on English organists and organ-builders. Katharine Pardee (Betts Scholar at the University of Oxford) will talk about Mendelssohn as a performer on the organ, as an editor, and about his following in England. William Whitehead (Trinity College of Music) will examine articulation and editorial issues - in particular whether Mendelssohn's original slurrings might carry important information about earlier articulation traditions.
Vanessa Latarche (Head of Keyboard at the Royal College of Music) will discuss Mendelssohn’s piano music and perform some of the opus 35 Preludes and Fugues.
The day which will end with a discussion forum led by Ann Elise Smoot and a concert of organ and piano music.
We gratefully acknowledge support from the Fenton Arts Trust.
