The Coalition to End Child Poverty, consisting of children’s charities, trade unions, faith and church groups and organisations, urgently need your help to show public support for this pledge by joining us at the 'Keep the Promise' service, march and rally in London on 4 October.
The Government has made the promise of a generation to end child poverty, but time is running out to meet this historic pledge.
This will be the UK’s biggest ever event to end child poverty and we are counting on your support to make it a success. Bring your friends, families and fellow parishioners to join thousands of others to show the Government that the UK public is really concerned about child poverty. The event will begin with a short service for children and families and supporters at 11.30 am at St. Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey.
One in three children lives in poverty in the UK today. Poverty blights children’s lives. Children who grow up poor often do not reach their potential and are more likely to leave school without qualifications, which impacts on their ability to get a good job and financially contribute to society. Poverty also affects health, the life expectancy of the poorest children is a decade shorter and infant mortality is twice as high. Child poverty impacts on us all. It is a feature of an increasingly unequal society and a drain on the economy. For Christians and other people of faith, who believe that all people, particularly children, are of equal worth in the sight of God, such inequality of resources and opportunity should be addressed by society.
