Emergencies

Emergency works to church buildings

If there is genuine emergency work to be undertaken (such as stopping water coming in through the roof) and it needs a Faculty, please follow the following steps.

1. Phone your Archdeacon and inform him or her.
2. Phone the Care of Churches Team and inform them.
3. Send paperwork requesting immediate permission to go ahead to the Registry, with copies to your Archdeacon and the DAC office.

Flooding in churches

Emergency works to residential property

These are works which must be carried out within 48 hours such as blocked drains, gas leaks, re-glazing and the securing of a property after a break-in, leaking pipes or water penetration.

In an emergency contact the Property Department. It is essential to inform them of the problem and seek advice before any work is carried out. The Department is normally staffed 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday. At weekends, please call as soon as possible on Monday.

Following a break-in the police will normally be able to recommend a contractor to undertake immediate boarding up to re-secure a property, otherwise please refer to the Minor Works Handbook as most contractors listed under General Property Maintenance should be able to undertake this.

Boilers, heating, plumbing and drainage emergencies

If you have such an emergency and cannot contact the Property Department please phone either Hall & Randall on 020 8953 2094 – their offices are staffed from 5am Monday to Friday or The Beaver Company on 020 8450 7835, or consult the Minor Works Handbook.

Most parsonages are covered by a Thames Water Plumbing and Drainage policy. This policy covers cold water emergencies and drain blockages. For more information t: 0800 783 4997.
