Community Ministry

Community Ministry involves:

• Creating a structure of participation that helps churches to respond to an issue of local concern;
• Enabling people to move beyond conventional thinking and stereotypes, especially in relation to those who are marginalised.
• Helping people to make links between social action and the Gospel.

Community Ministry Advisers help parishes to:

• Identify the needs of their local community and decide how best to get involved
• Set up community projects and initiatives in response to these needs
• Develop a theological perspective in relation to their community involvement and concern

Church Urban Fund Grants - Policy and Procedure

The Diocese of London now has grant-making status for Church Urban Fund (CUF) grants. This allows it to be far more strategic in the allocation of these grants. The annual delivery plan has four priorities:

• To resource clusters of the most deprived parishes with community development officers who will capacity build and support development within the parishes
• To fund the development of youth projects by supporting the employment of youth workers
• To encourage interfaith projects
• To provide continuation funding for successful innovative projects

These priorities will be updated each year and the Community Ministry Adviser will be grateful to receive your comements.

CUF funding can only be applied to projects based within the top 10% of deprivation, according to the index of multiple deprivation. Capital projects are not eligible. Ecumenical initiatives, which have Anglican partners, are able to apply to the Church Urban Fund.

Applications for small "mustard seed" grants of up to £5,000 are forwarded to CUF. Main grants are assessed by the Bishop of London's Mission Fund Panel.
