The Bishop of London's Mission Fund

London Challenge includes two commitments:

The Bishop of London's Mission Fund continues to play its part in the fulfilment of these commitments by offering support to varied and imaginative mission work in the Diocese.

What the Mission Fund will support

Applications are welcomed from all ecclesial communities and chaplaincies that operate within the Diocese of London.

The Mission Fund does not have concrete eligibility criteria but applications must:

Each application is considered on its own merits. However, the Mission Fund is unlikely to fund additional curates or to support posts that are essentially administrative in nature.

As the work of the Mission Fund Board continues it is likely that the Board will wish to add to the above in the light of its experience. Such additions will be communicated by the amendment of these guidelines from time to time.

How to apply

This outline is how grant applications will be developed, and awards processed in the majority of cases. Even if your application is likely to be more complex, help is available from the advocate and/or secretary.

  1. Agree the basic aspects of your mission project.

  2. Discuss possible sources of funding with your archdeacon. He or she will be able to give you an idea whether your project fits in with the Mission Fund's broad eligibility criteria.
  3. If your archdeacon suggests approaching the Mission Fund for support, you should make contact with Theresa Moses, the Secretary by t: 020 7932 1247 or e: theresa.moses@london.anglican.org. The Mission Fund works on an advocate basis. A member of the Board will be assigned to you to assist with the application and identify any potential pitfalls at this early stage.
  4. When you, the Archdeacon and the advocate are agreed , send the fully completed application form and supporting documents to the Secretary, who will include it in the next possible meeting for consideration by the whole Board.
  5. Following the meeting the area advocate will contact you to let you know the Board's decision; whether a grant was awarded and, if so for how much; whether any conditions were attached, and if a grant is not awarded, the reasons why and what further steps can be taken.
  6. The Secretary will confirm the award in writing, detailing any conditions and requesting a signed agreement is returned.
  7. Payment of an award is usually by quarterly installments to a PCC account.
  8. In 2012 the deadlines for applications are Monday 16 January, Monday 20 February, Monday 23 April, Monday 27 August, Monday 5 November.
